The Minister of Labour and Social Justice, Marius Budai, declared on Sunday at private TV broadcaster Antena 3 that the budget will be approved in February and that there is no question of not paying pensions and salaries in case the budget is delayed, because the main task of the ruling Coalition is to bring more money into the pockets of the Romanians.

"I think we will have a budget shortly, in February. (...) We eventually have to go into normality and if he [President Klaus Iohannis, ed.n.] respects what he has said many times, that at least during this 6-month period we will have consensus, I think he will also promote the budget. We want to approve it as soon as possible," the Labour Minister said.

"[I would like] to look directly into the eyes of the people and tell them this: we are not the ones who cut down but we are the ones who give. And our main mission as long as we are governing is to bring more money into the pockets of the Romanians. If the Pension Law was attacked at the Constitutional Court, we have put in the Emergency Ordinance the increase of the retirement point to reassure the pensioners and to show that we are carrying our mission through. This will remain our main mission: more money in the pockets of the Romanians and we shall keep it," Buda said.

The budget deficit for 2018 will be below 2.97 percent of the GDP, falling to 2.5 percent of the GDP in 2019, Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici said a week ago. Last December, the head of the Public Finances was showing that the Gross Domestic Product estimated for the following year is about 1.022 billion lei and economic growth stands at 5.5 percent.
